As your Lordship is aware two memorials are being, or

have been, forwarded by the Civil Servants of this Colony asking

your Lordship to reconsider your decision on the salary

question. I have signed neither of those meliorials because it

appeared to me that one was a memorial from those on the

sterling basis, and the other from those on the silver basis.

I could not sign the former as I am on the silver basis. I did

not sign the latter as it seemed to me that my position was not

quite the same as that of the majority of its signatories. Of

course I thoroughly agree with the facts stated in both the

menorials and the arguments based thereon. I therefore will not

take up your Lordship's time by repeating those facts and

arguments, but will confine myself to the following remarks; -

In my position in the Colony I find it almost impossible to

for the Colonies.
